Description

Short

Chainstorm is a short incremental roguelite in which you are the storm. Each storm lasts about a minute: hold, aim and release, and watch one bolt chain from villager to villager. Spend your Sparks on a big upgrade tree, then come back with worse weather.

Long

You are a storm over a small cartoon village. You have about a minute and a few bolts. Hold to charge, pick your moment and let go. Lightning travels through iron and water, stops at dry wood and stone, and jumps from one villager to the next when the crowd stands close enough. Trees burn and fall. Crowds panic, scatter and regroup. The best strike of every storm goes on record, and long chains pay out with big multipliers.

Between storms you spend your Sparks on a large branching upgrade tree: more bolts, more weather, catastrophes, and a village that grows into a town and then a city.

Chainstorm is small on purpose: a few hours to a clear ending, with no offline progress and no idle income. The tone is stylized dark comedy without gore: a struck villager is gone in a puff of ash, and a Spark flies to your counter.

Features

  • Chain lightning you can watch, link by link, across the whole square.
  • Cold conducts, warm stops: iron and water carry the bolt, dry wood and stone end it.
  • Crowds that gather, panic and regroup, so your timing decides the payout.
  • A big branching upgrade tree: bolts, weather, catastrophes, and village to town to city.
  • Short storms and a real ending. No idle income.
  • Playable with a mouse or a gamepad.
  • Comfort settings: full-screen flashes are capped, and "reduce flashing" calms the rest.
